Course content
The topic of this course is the possible applications of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt) in diseases of the central nervous system or brain. Photobiomodulation therapy - which includes laser therapy - can influence metabolic processes in the brain and is becoming an increasingly important part of the medicine of the future.
The goal of this course is to teach the contemporary physician and therapist the potential of photobiomdulation in traumatic and neurodegenerative diseases of the brain and for psychiatric indications.
For this purpose, therapeutic techniques and parameters that can ensure those of PBMt will also be demonstrated.

Target group
This is an understandable presentation of photobiomodulation therapy for neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders for the medical community. The course will be of interest to neurologists and psychiatrists, as well as therapists in the field of neurorehabilitation and general practitioners or alternative practitioners.

Lecturer
MSc. PBM Farzad Salehpour is a specialist in Brain Photobiomodulation and in the Editorial Board Member of Journal of "Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine and Laser Surgery".

Special encore (free content)

Furthermore, in this course you will find additional interviews conducted by Farzad Sahlepour with the leading researchers in the field of photobiological therapy for brain diseases - like Dr Dan Johnstone, Dr Marvin H Berman, Dr Robert Hedaya, Dr Paul Chazot, Dr Ann Liebert, Dr John Mitrofanis, Dr Liisa Laasko, Dr Leonardo Longo and more - on dementia, Parkinson ́s disease, TBI, post concussion syndrome, ischemic brain conditions etc.

Course structure and length
The training includes 14 sessions of varying length and an online final test.
The total length of the video tutorials is about 6 h respectively 8 teaching units (UE). The test will take you about 1 h.

Sessions
  • Session 1: Introduction
  • Session 2: Biophysical Aspects of Brain PBM
  • Session 3: Light Penetration into Brain
  • Session 4: Action Mechanisms of PBM in the Brain/Neurons
  • Session 5: Biphasic Dose-Response in PBM of Brain/Neurons
  • Session 6: Pre-Conditioning with PBM in the Brain/Neurons
  • Session 7: PBM for Neuronal Cell Culture
  • Session 8-14: PBM Therapy for Brain Conditions (Evidence from pre-clinical and clinical studies
Test
The test includes 54 questions and is considered passed if 80% of the questions are answered correctly. You have the option to retake the test several times (no additional cost).

Certificate
After passing the test you will receive your COLLL certificate in Photo-Neuro-Modulation (Phototherapist Photo-Neuro-Modulation).

Competencies
With this training you will be able to assess the potential and possible applications of photobiomodulation therapy for the various brain disorders. You will be able to independently assess therapy goals and dosage. You will recognize the potential of photobiomodulation in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases as well as for traumatic brain injuries.

Certification
The course concludes with the COLLL certificate "Phototherapist COLLL for Photo-Neuro- Modulation".

Course completation
On average, our participants complete this training in a relaxed manner within 2 weeks. This gives you enough time to anchor the content. You can view the course as many times as you like. Basically, you have 1 year to complete the training.

Background of the course

There is increasing evidence suggesting the efficacy of PBM therapy in three major types of brain conditions:
  • traumatic events (stroke, global ischemia, and traumatic brain injury)
  • degenerative diseases (dementia and Parkinson's disease) and
  • neuropsychiatric disorders (major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder).
  • furthermore, in recent years, PBM is gaining increasing interest as a brain-boosting strategy in healthy young and old individuals.
